A5 vs A6 vs A7 — Which Binder Size Is Right For You?

A5 vs A6 vs A7 — Which Binder Size Is Right For You?

Oneka Brown

If you've been browsing our binder collection and found yourself wondering what the difference is between A5, A6, and A7 — you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we get, and the answer matters because choosing the wrong size means your inserts won't fit, your envelopes won't sit right, and the whole system feels off. This guide breaks down each size clearly so you can choose the one that works best for your lifestyle.

What Do The Size Names Mean?

A5, A6, and A7 are international paper size standards. Each one refers to a specific set of dimensions, and the number tells you the size — the higher the number, the smaller the binder.

A5 is the largest of the three. A6 is mid-size. A7 is the smallest and most compact.

Each binder size is designed to hold inserts and envelopes cut to that same size, so it's important to match your inserts and cash envelopes to the binder size you choose.

A7 Binders — The Most Portable Option

Dimensions: approximately 4.5" × 5.7"

The A7 binder is the smallest in our range. It's roughly the size of a large index card — compact enough to slip into a purse, handbag, or jacket pocket without adding bulk.

This makes it ideal for anyone who wants a binder they can carry with them every day. Whether you're using it as a portable cash wallet, a compact savings challenge binder, or an everyday organiser, the A7 fits seamlessly into daily life without being something you have to think about carrying.

The A7 is best for you if you want something small and portable, plan to carry your binder with you daily, prefer a minimalist setup with a small number of envelopes or inserts, or want a stylish everyday accessory that happens to keep your money organised.

It's worth noting that the A7 has less capacity than the larger sizes — it works well for a focused savings challenge or a small number of cash envelopes, but may feel limited if you want to run a full budget system with many categories.

We currently offer the A7 in three styles — Croc in pink or black, Minimalist in black or pink, and Transparent with a floral cover.

A6 Binders — The Most Versatile Option

Dimensions: approximately 7.5" x 5.2"

The A6 binder is our most popular size and the one used across the widest range of our products — including our budget binders, most savings challenge binders, the 100 Envelope Savings Challenge binders, and sinking fund binders.

It sits comfortably between the compact A7 and the larger A5 — portable enough to carry in a bag, but spacious enough to hold a full set of cash envelopes and budget inserts without feeling cramped.

The A6 is best for you if you want a binder you can use both at home and on the go, plan to run a savings challenge or full budget system with multiple envelopes, want access to the widest range of compatible inserts and products, or are new to binders and want the most flexible starting point.

If you're unsure which size to choose, start with A6. It's the most versatile option and the size that the majority of our inserts, cash envelopes, and savings challenge products are designed around.

We offer A6 binders in a wide range of styles including Minimalist, Marble, Tropical, Floral, Croc, Transparent, and Ribbed Acrylic.

A5 Binders — The Most Spacious Option

Dimensions: approximately 6.7”  x 8.7”

The A5 binder is the largest in our range. It offers the most space for inserts, envelopes, and additional pages — making it the best choice for anyone who wants a comprehensive home budgeting or savings system with plenty of room to grow.

Because of its size, the A5 is less suited for carrying daily but works exceptionally well as a desk-based binder — something you open at the start of each month to set up your budget, review your spending, or update your savings tracker.

The A5 is best for you if you want the most space for inserts and envelopes, plan to run a detailed monthly budget with many spending categories, prefer a binder that stays at home rather than travelling with you, or want to keep additional notes, trackers, and records alongside your main budget system.

We offer A5 binders in styles including Silver, Rose Gold, Green, and others used across our savings challenge and budget binder ranges.

A Quick Comparison

The A7 at 4.5" × 5.7" is the smallest, most portable, and best for daily carry with a simple setup. The A6 at 7.5" × 5.2" is mid-size, the most versatile, and best for both home and on-the-go use across a full savings or budget system. The A5 at 6.7" × 8.7" is the largest, most spacious, and best for a comprehensive home-based budget system with many categories.

Which Size Should You Start With?

If you're new to binders and not sure where to begin — start with A6. It's the most flexible size, works with the widest range of our products, and strikes the right balance between portability and capacity for most people.

If you already know you want something small and portable that you'll carry every day — go with A7.

If you know you want a full, detailed home budgeting system with maximum space for inserts and categories — go with A5.

And if you already have a binder and want to add cash envelopes or inserts — make sure you match the size of your new additions to the size of the binder you already have.
